Whitemud Resources Inc. developed a world class metakaolin manufacturing facility in southern Saskatchewan dedicated to producing a consistent, high quality, cost competitive supplementary cementing material (SCM) providing a long term supply for the cementitious and concrete industries. With our proven raw kaolin clay reserves and patented dry manufacturing process, Whitemud is positioned to be a leading supplier of high performing, environmentally responsible metakaolin throughout North America.
Our product, EnviroPozz™ metakaolin, is made from the mining and processing of naturally occurring kaolin clay. It is a unique SCM that enhances the strength, versatility and durability of concrete products, including ready mix, precast, shotcrete, and roller compacted concrete, while providing similar benefits in oil and gas well cements, building products such as tiles and grouts, and other cementitious applications, like soil cement stabilization. EnviroPozz™ can replace up to 10% of the cement used in your mix, while enhancing its performance, reducing its environmental footprint, and reducing total costs through design optimization.
The concrete industry in North America is continuously looking for ways to make better, longer lasting, sustainable concrete. With performance benefits including strength, durability, improved finishing, resistance to pop-outs and cracking, EnviroPozz™ helps create better concrete. When combined with a reduced carbon footprint versus Portland cement and Whitemud's significant mineral reserves, EnviroPozz™ can be your SCM of the future.
Much like the concrete industry, well cementing companies benefit from the enhanced performance and reduced carbon footprint of EnviroPozz™ when supplementing cement in downhole cementing applications. Additional advantages of EnviroPozz™, such as a higher surface area and lower specific gravity than Portland cement, allow cementing companies to maximize their blend performance, while managing free water and increasing slurry yields.
As a high performance, environmentally friendly, and cost effective alternative to cement utilization, EnviroPozz™ can be employed in a wide variety of your everyday building products. Everything from grouts and bonding agents, to tiles and ceramics, to cement board siding and manufactured trim, EnviroPozz™ delivers benefits to product manufacturers and their end users.
Soil cement stabilization is a process where cementitious materials are blended into an existing soil structure, conditioned with water, and recompacted to create structural strength. By utilizing EnviroPozz™, stabilization companies can reduce their total cementitious content, while still achieving strength targets. This improves their overall operational efficiency and leads to a better end product.
Whitemud produces high quality, consistent EnviroPozz™.
Located near Assiniboia in southern Saskatchewan, 225 kilometers southwest of Regina and 55 kilometers north of the Opheim-West Poplar U.S. border crossing, Whitemud's facility is ideally situated to capture the North American market.
EnviroPozz™ is an environmentally friendly, performance enhancing supplementary cementing material (SCM) which meets the criteria of a Class ‘N’ - Natural Pozzolan in accordance with both CSA A3000 and ASTM C618.
EnviroPozz™ can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when compared to the manufacturing of Portland cement.
With Whitemud's projected annual production capability and GHG reduction potential when supplementing equal volumes of cement, using EnviroPozz™ could be the equivalent of removing more than 26,000 passenger vehicles from our roads each year, or the annual household emissions from 15,000 single family detached homes, or the GHG benefit equivalent to more than 6,400,000 mature trees sequestering carbon in our forests each year.
“We have been using Whitemud’s Metakaolin for seven years as a standard mix component in our ready mix concrete. ASR pop-outs was one of the primary reasons why we made the decision to batch all of our concrete with Whitemud’s Metakaolin. Since we started using MK, we have had zero reported instances of ASR pop-outs on our slab mixes. We have also come to appreciate the other positive attributes of MK including reduced shrinkage, improved workability and creaminess, and increased durability through a reduction in permeability. When crews first work with our MK mix, we frequently hear, “WOW! These guys really know how to make concrete!” MK in the mix produces a smoother product that rakes, floats and power trowels beautifully.”

“Using new products can sometimes be problematic however we had no issues integrating Whitemud’s Metakaolin into the project. The finishers found the mix to be really creamy and placing was no different to our normal mix. Coloration was more consistent on the form side of the slab. We would have no hesitation using this product on our next job.”

“The main challenges on the Bow Tower job were shrinkage and pump-ability. The flow-ability through the congested rebar required reducing the maximum aggregate size which increased the potential for shrinkage. Metakaolin in the mix assisted in alleviating these issues. Our concrete mix design was able to satisfy the requirements for shrinkage and cracking. The pumping characteristics have met all requirements at the lower levels of the 58-floor structure. Metakaolin in our present mix designs has proven beneficial for LEED projects, early strengths, and stripping times.”

“I liked the Metakaolin concrete as soon as it came out of the truck. We were able to get our stripping strengths in 3 days, without accelerators. We can compress our construction schedule. Having Whitemud’s Metakaolin in the mix provides LEED points without adding work and time.
